Power ranking the Kevin Durant NBA 2016 free agency suitors
By John Buhler
If there is one team that Durant is reportedly considering that isn’t getting the attention it should, it’s the Los Angeles Clippers. Barring injuries and the Clippers Curse, really the only thing holding Los Angeles back from vying for an NBA Championship is a strong starting small forward.
Durant could easily be that guy and would fit in fantastically on Doc Rivers’ Clippers. Imagine how great this Clippers starting five would be: Chris Paul at point guard, J.J. Redick at shooting guard, Durant at small forward, Blake Griffin at power forward, and DeAndre Jordan at center. That’s four All-NBA level players and one of the six best pure shooters in the NBA in Redick out on the wing.
If Durant is interested in tech and maybe film post-NBA career, he can get both in Los Angeles by joining the Clippers. He’ll be in Hollywood and will have one of the best tech minds ever in owner Steve Ballmer of Microsoft fame.
As currently constructed, the Clippers are a top four team in the brutal Western Conference. With him joining the Clippers, Los Angeles has a real possibility of topping Oklahoma City, Golden State, and San Antonio.
Durant would be in a major media market, getting surely a max contract, be surrounded by elite NBA talent, and he would be playing for Golden State’s arch nemesis in the Clippers. While the Clippers have villain-like qualities, joining Los Angeles doesn’t actually hurt Durant’s brand like going to either Golden State or San Antonio would. He could still be adored and play for a championship caliber team in Los Angeles. Think about that.
Next: 1. Oklahoma City Thunder.
