High Value SP

Marco Estrada-Toronto Blue Jays (8,000): Estrada is discounted tonight because of the added risk inherent with choosing any starter taking the mound at Coors Field.  However, Estrada will have the backing of a powerful Blue Jays lineup behind him, and I think he can limit the damage enough to still be a good option as he takes the mound tonight in the Mile High City.

Estrada had won four straight decisions before taking a loss against Arizona in his last outing.  He comes into tonight’s start with a 2.70 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00.  He has 84 strikeouts in his 93.1 innings pitched, and the only real risk in going with him tonight is the Coors Field effect. ∗∗

Robbie Ray-Arizona Diamondbacks (7,800): Ray is another nice bargain option to consider tonight, and almost always brings enough strikeout potential to make him intriguing.  He gets a good matchup tonight at home agains the Phillies which should be a winnable game against a lineup he can dominate.

The 24-year old lefty is 4-6 on the year with a 4.59 ERA, but he has picked up 93 K’s in his 80.1 innings.  He had been great in his two previous outings before a bit of a stumble against the Blue Jays in his last outing.  Even in that game, though, he had eight strikeouts and has at least six in each of his six starts.  He has been notably better on the road than at home where he’ll take the mound tonight, but a good matchup against the Phillies counteracts his reverse home/road splits.∗∗∗
