Catcher

High-Salary Option: Buster Posey-San Francisco Giants (3,700): Posey is still the best high-salary option behind the plate as we head into another week.  He got a break on Friday against the Phils, but he still entered the game as a pinch-hitter and singled to keep his hitting streak alive.  He has hit safely in each of his last six games and is 22-72 (.306) in Junes with a homer, 15 runs scored, and 11 RBI. Posey has always hit better in front of the home fans, so check him out if you are spending big behind the plate tonight.∗∗

Mid-range Option: Willson Contreras-Chicago Cubs(3,000): Contreras got the start in all four of the Cubs’ games against the Fish this weekend and is 8-23 since joining the Major League club last week.  He has already hit three long-balls and is hitting right in the middle of a stacked lineup.  If he’s in the lineup again tonight against the Reds, look for him to produce meaningful fantasy points once again especially in a juicy matchup against Dan Straily at the bandbox that is Great American Ballpark.∗∗∗∗

Mid-range Option: Welington Castillo-Arizona Diamondbacks (3,000): Castillo is another solid option at catcher at 3K if you don’t trust Contreras.  Castillo went 3-5 on Saturday to boost his average to .271 on the season and .288 (17-59) in June.  He gets a good matchup against the Phillies and Vince Velasquez in Arizona tonight.∗∗

High-Value Option: Yan Gomes-Cleveland Indians (2,800): Gomes is still hitting just .186 on the season, but he has started to turn things around lately with a six-game hitting streak in which he has gone 8-24 (.333) with a pair of doubles and a homer. He and the rest of the Tribe lineup will get a good matchup if the rain in Atlanta holds off. (weather dependent)-

Bargain Basement Bonus: Jett Bandy-Los Angeles Angels (2,000): Bandy got Sunday off although he entered the game later as a pinch hitter. In his last four starts, he had collected at least one hit and in seven of his previous eight games.  He is hitting .293 on the season in his 14 games and could earn more of a share behind the plate for the Angels if he can continue to out-produce Carlos Perez. Bandy is  a good enough option to grab if you need to go cheap at catcher to allow the spending you need elsewhere. ∗∗∗
