First Baseman

High-Salary Option: Edwin Encarnacion-Toronto Blue Jays (4,800): Encarnacion is definitely a power option, and in a power-friendly park like Coors Field he makes a good play if you can get his bulky salary under your cap.  He was held hitless yesterday, but Encarnacion has crushed it all month hitting over .300 with nine homers and 26 RBI. Encarnacion has played ten games in his career at Coors Field and is 12-38 (.316) although he has yet to hit a homer in the park. I think that’ll change tonight against Jon Gray.∗∗∗

High-Salary Option: Paul Goldschmidt-Arizona Diamondbacks (4,400): The D-Backs have looked good lately and part of that is definitely due to the hot streak of their star 1B.  Goldy has hit over .400 over the last week and is 33-90 so far in June with four homers and 14 RBI.  He comes into tonight with a healthy 1.063 OPS at home and should be in a good matchup to feast on against the Phils tonight.  While he doesn’t have quite the power potential of Encarnacion at Coors, he hits of a better average and is a great play at home.∗∗∗∗∗

Mid-range Option: Albert Pujols-Los Angeles Angels (3,500): Pujols is 6-17 (.353) against Astros’ starter Collin McHugh in his career with a homer and four RBI.  Pujols is coming off a successful series this weekend going 6-15 over his last three games with two homers, three RBI and a pair of runs scored.  While he’s only hitting .239 on the season, he is right in the middle of the Angels lineup in a matchup where his career numbers say he can succeed .∗∗∗

Mid-range Option: Logan Morrison-Tampa Bay Rays (2,900): Morrison and the Rays take on the Red Sox and Eduardo Rodriguez tonight at The Trop.  LoMo has hit safely in five straight games going 8-20 with three doubles and three RBI over that span. He has eight long balls on the year and seems to always haunt the Red Sox.  Before going 0-8 in Boston earlier this year, Morrison aw 12-38 over the last three years with a pair of homers against the Red Sox and an OPS of .898 against them.  Morrison is a bit of a stretch in a lefty vs lefty matchup, but ERod haste’ been great yet this season, and Morrision looks like he may be heating up. ∗∗

High-Value Option: Prince Fielder-Texas Rangers  (2,400): Prince is a cheap play tonight against the Yankees in New York which could be an awesome situation for him given the short porch in right field. His value will be dependent on the weather, but give him a look if the game looks like it will be played.

Fielder has hit safely in eight straight games and homered in two of the three games this weekend against the Red Sox.  He’s still hitting only .211 on the season, but against the Yankees in Yankee Stadium he’s a boom-or-bust play tonight with upside to go off at an affordable price.
