High Value SP

Wei-Yin Chen-Maimi Marlins (8,400): Chen is coming off one of his best starts with the Marlins after holding the Cubs to just two runs on five hits in seven innings his last time out.  He didn’t get the win in that outing but is 4-2 on the year with a 1.29 WHIP and a 5.00 ERA.

The reason Chen is a solid play tonight is a great matchup against the Braves.  He already had two good starts earlier this year against Atlanta allowing three runs in 11.1 innings while striking out 11 and holding the Braves to a .158 average.  He will look to find that kind of success again tonight and is a good pick for a W as the Marlins visit Atlanta.∗∗∗

Brandon Finnegan-Cincinnati Reds (6,200): If you decide to stock your lineup with big-name, big-salary bats, the best ultra-cheap starting pitcher to check out is Brandon Finnegan of the Reds. Finnegan has allowed three runs or fewer in eight of his last ten starts and is coming off an eight-strikeout game against the Padres.  He took the tough-luck loss in that game falling to 3-6 despite turning in a quality start.

Finnegan faced the Nats at the beginning of this month and held them to just one run in 6.1 innings.  He’ll look to bookend the moth with wins over Washington as he takes the mound tonight as a boom-or-bust SP option.∗∗
