First Baseman

High-Salary Option: Chris Davis-Baltimore Orioles (4,000): Davis has collected multiple hits in four of his last six games and six of his last ten but is still hitting just .243 on the season.  Over the last week he has gone 9-24 (.375) though with three homers.  He takes on right Taijuan Walker tonight who has been inconsistent throughout the season for Seattle and who Davis is 1-4 against in his career with four walks as well. Davis is heating up now, though, so give him a long look as a big-salary 1B as he heads to Seattle tonight. ∗∗∗

High-Salary Option: Mike Napoli-Cleveland Indians (4,000): Napoli is worth a look as he continues to help the Indians surge ahead in the AL Central.  Napoli is 6-19 (.316) over the last week with his 16th homer of the year to go with his 52 RBI.  He has a good history against the Blue Jays from his time in Boston and enters tonight 7-24 (.292) against R.A. Dickey with a pair of doubles, a homer, and six RBI.  Napoli will be a solid play at Rodgers Centre tonight even though he definitely doesn’t come cheap. ∗∗

High-Salary Option: Edwin Encarnacion-Arizona Diamondbacks (3,900): Encarnacion is actually surprisingly affordable likely due to his matchup with Carlos Carrasco who has looked good lately.  However, I like Encarnacion tonight despite the matchup since he is 1-5 against him in his career with a double and a walk and has hit .318 (28-88) in June with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. Take advantage of his affordable price at home at Rodgers Centre where his OPS is an eye-popping .955 over 128 at-bats.∗∗∗∗∗

Mid-range Option: Logan Morrison-Tampa Bay Rays (3,000): Morrison and the Rays host Jordan Zimmermann and the Tigers at the Trop tonight, and I think LoMo could be a nice option if you can’t scrape the salary together to grab one of the top options.  Morrison has gone 9-26 (.346) over the last week and has connected on five homers this month. He is 4-20 in his career against Zimmerman which isn’t that impressive until you realize that three of those four hits have been homers and the other was a double helping to a .938 OPS against the Tigers’ probable pitcher tonight. Morrison didn’t start for Tampa yesterday, but he should be back in the lineup tonight.∗∗

High-Value Option: James Loney-New York Mets  (2,600): There aren’t many 1B options under 3K tonight, but Loney is worth a look since he is hitting .284 since joining the Mets and has hit safely in 15 of his last 17 contests.  He connected on a two-run homer yesterday and will look to contribute again tonight against the Cubs and John Lackey.
