Milwaukee Bucks: Move on from Greg Monroe

The Bucks are so much fun to watch and that begins with the team’s young talent. Giannis Antetokounmpo would likely go number one in any re-boot of the 2013 NBA Draft class and at the age of 21, he is a budding superstar in the NBA. Combine that wonderful asset with the fact that Milwaukee also employs Jabari Parker (a former number two pick), Khris Middleton (a wildly underrated wing) and two strong draft assets from 2016 in Thon Maker and Malcolm Brogdon, and this is a monstrous core.

On the periphery, the Bucks also employ nice role players in John Henson and, theoretically, Michael Carter-Williams, but Milwaukee has one poor contract on the books. That contract belongs to Greg Monroe.

It isn’t the worst numerical deal in the world, with Monroe guaranteed only one more year at just over $17 million, but Monroe is an ugly fit in Milwaukee. Rumors are already flying about the Bucks shopping his services, and this is a franchise that desperately needs an interior defensive force to pair with Parker. In short, that player is not Monroe.

There isn’t a move that Milwaukee can realistically make to challenge a team like Golden State in 2016-2017, but moving on from Monroe with haste would be a nice start.
