Philadelphia 76ers: Trust the Process

Sam Hinkie is gone, but his mantra lives on.

“Trust the Process” has been a tag line that many in the NBA universe have poked fun at in the recent past, and with good reason. The Sixers have been brutally unwatchable for the past handful of seasons, as Philadelphia boasts the worst present-day roster in the entire league. However, the light is beginning to grow at the end of the tunnel.

The Sixers added number one pick Ben Simmons in this year’s NBA Draft after picking up Jahlil Okafor a year ago. The team can pair those players with Nerlens Noel, the potential of Joel Embiid (if healthy) and incoming European star Dario Saric. In short, that is a very nice start of a basketball team.

Unfortunately, all of those players occupy the frontcourt, but the Philadelphia does have boatloads of money to spend this offseason if they want to do so. The smart tact would be to spend wisely on a backcourt player or two this summer while simultaneously maintaining flexibility, and if the Sixers can do that, the future is bright.

This rebuild requires Simmons, Okafor, Saric or even Embiid to become superstar-level players, and that may be a stretch. Still, Philadelphia is beginning to come around the bend and that is fun.
