Utah Jazz: Add a hybrid forward
Don’t look now, but the Utah Jazz are terrifying. At least if you are a Western Conference team that must face off with Quin Snyder and his squad in the near future.
Up front, the Jazz boast the athletic and lengthy duo of Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors, with 2015 lottery pick Trey Lyles serving as an emerging backup. On the wing, Gordon Hayward is a legitimate top-flight option, and he is paired with Rodney Hood (who is a stud) and a cost-controlled Alec Burks in something of a hybrid role. Now, on the heels of an interesting trade, the Jazz also have an above-average point guard in George Hill and the returning intrigue of a former top-five pick in Dante Exum.
Loaded, right?
It is somewhat difficult to pick apart this roster as currently constructed, especially if the pieces are all healthy. However, Utah could certainly use some veteran influence, preferably in the form of a combo forward that could effectively guard high-end 3’s and 4’s.
Players like Marvin Williams and Luol Deng would make a ton of sense in Utah on short-term contracts, as they would allow the Jazz’s principle pieces to continue growing without blocking long-term progress with ugly salary cap figures. Utah won’t be the only team bidding, but they should certainly jump in on Williams, Deng or someone else (Solomon Hill?) in this mold.
