Cleveland Cavaliers: Keep the band together

The Cleveland Cavaliers are the 2016 NBA champions.

You read that correctly.

For as much as this post is dedicating to knocking off the Warriors… the Cavs have already done that. We all watched it.

LeBron James appears poised to stay put in Cleveland, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love are under contract, and even the team’s free agents (J.R. Smith and Matthew Dellavedova) could be kept under the right circumstances. In short, the Cavs are the one team in the NBA that doesn’t have to do a single thing in order to claim the inside track against the Warriors.

To be fair, Cleveland could certainly improve with a potential Kevin Love trade, and there are some relative weaknesses on this roster. Love proved to be something of an issue in the playoffs, as he is a pure power forward that does not defend at a particularly high level with limited mobility. There is a case to hold on to Love given that the team just won the title, but if you are clamoring for movement, this is the spot.

LeBron is back, though, and that gives Tyronn Lue’s team the upper hand on any challenger until further notice.
