While the New York Knicks seemed like an ideal fit for Conley in 2016 NBA free agency this summer, with the Derrick Rose trade with Chicago Bulls, New York is no longer a free agency destination for Conley.

That potentially appealing landing spot for the Memphis point guard is now less desirable as the new team on the market in need for a star point guard is Chicago. The Bulls have probably begun their rebuilding process after trading hometown hero and former league MVP Rose after failing to reach the Eastern Conference Playoffs last season.

Yes, the Bulls have a top 15 player in the game today in All-NBA shooting guard Jimmy Butler, but even he is being shopped around this offseason as the key piece in a blockbuster trade designed to help the Bulls in their rebuilding process.

Entering 2016 NBA free agency, the starting point guard for the Bulls is Jose Calderon, the point guard Chicago received in return from the Knicks in the Rose trade. Calderon was a good player years ago, but is fading fast in the small ball era of the NBA.

By signing with Chicago, it would signify that the Bulls front office has no idea what they are doing. A backcourt tandem of Conley and Butler could be dangerously good, but might be too expensive to keep in place for the long-term. It also puts the rebuilding plan on hold and renders Chicago in a directionless state.
