2016 NBA Free Agency: 1 move every team needs to make to be contenders
Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets have one of the best young rosters primed to develop in 2016 between Emmanual Mudiay, Gary Harris, and Will Barton. Add in the dual threat at center from Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic, and the high energy/effort from Kenneth Faried, and there is a decent team in Denver. Not to mention the depth at small forward between Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler.
The problem for Denver is that none of these players, outside of maybe Mudiay, looks to have a ceiling beyond that of a solid role player. I don’t know that there will be any All-Stars on this team and that’s where their depth comes in handy. The Denver Nuggets could trade with the Sixers for Nerlens Noel.
It was reported that Noel was being shopped before the draft, and the Nuggets have the right set of veteran role players the sixers could use as they try and transition out of tanking. Noel would provide a compliment with Mudiay and Harris that could compete for the playoffs this year and into the future.
Noel is a mobile center/power forward who hasn’t quite developed his shooting but he’s already at all-star levels of shot blocking and rim protection. Next to a player like Jokic or Nurkic he could bolster a weak Nuggets defense with mobility and length and give them a competitive frontcourt that’s been missing.
