Detroit is a team on the rise that a player like Durant would immediately put into contention status. They have a former teammate of his in Reggie Jackson running the point, a growing star in Andre Drummond, and a system of pick-and-rolls that will allow Durant to push chaos on defenses from everywhere across the court. Stan Van Gundy is the coach and he’s no questions asked one of the five best coaches in the NBA. The team he has put together is reminiscent of the 2009 Orlando Magic squad he took to the Finals, but the twist of Durant will make their offense that much more dangerous.

Imagine a Jackson-Drummond pick-and-roll where the defense is forced to choose between leaving Durant, leaving an open 3-point shooter, or leaving the two defenders alone against a rolling Drummond and the ball-handler Jackson. The space alone Durant will be given to work in should create numbers equal to, if not greater, than his MVP season in OKC. On top of all this the core is young, and a group that Durant should be able to grow with as the face of it all for a long time. Choosing Detroit is choosing title contention.
