Boston Celtics: Sign C Bismack Biyombo.

The consensus is that the Boston Celtics had the worst 2016 NBA Draft of any team in the NBA. Danny Ainge had three first round picks, but outside of reaching for California’s Jaylen Brown at No. 3, didn’t get the All-Star caliber player he wanted in a draft day trade.

Boston still has a stockpile of assets, but if the Celtics want to get out of the first round in the 2017 NBA Playoffs, they’ll need to find a strong pick-and-roll partner for All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas. However, that player is in no way, shape or form Toronto Raptors center Bismack Biyombo.

Nobody in the Eastern Conference helped their free agency stock more than Biyombo did with his playoff performance for the 2015-16 Raptors. He rose to the occasion marvelously as an outstanding double-double machine in the low post once starting Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas went down with an ankle injury in the Eastern Conference Semifinals versus the Miami Heat.

Though Biyombo should be a great player for his new team as a starting center in 2016-17, he doesn’t fit into what Ainge and head coach Brad Stevens are doing in Boston at all. He has no range offensively and can be a tremendous liability at the free throw line, no matter how talented he is on the glass and in rim protection.

Boston does lose a few key pieces in the front court this free agency cycle, guys like Jared Sullinger and Tyler Zeller. While Biyombo would be an upgrade over either Celtics big man, Boston is better served using its money elsewhere to sign a more complete big man in free agency.
