NBA Free Agency 2016: 5 targets New York Knicks
By Jaylyn Cook
3. Bismack Biyombo
If the Knicks want to put up $18 million for a center, they should consider giving Biyombo a call – or at least send him a fruit tray, or an Apple Store gift card or something.
His relentless defensive and rebounding efforts during the Cavaliers/Raptors series during the 2016 Playoffs was legendary; efforts that culminated with a 26 rebound game that downed the Cavs 99-84.
While LeBron ultimately was able to will his squad past the youthful Raptors and to a historic NBA Championship victory, Biyombo’s performance has gained the attention of several teams willing to shell out some major cash to entice him to leave the North.
At 6’9″, Biyombo is a slightly undersized center who has the athleticism to keep up with the growing trend of small ball, run-and-gun teams that many believe are “revolutionizing” the NBA. He’s also a consistent shot blocker, and if paired with Porzingis, the two could eventually develop into one of the most formidable frontcourt duos headlining the bright future of the Association.
However, offense is still a work in progress for the 23-year-old budding defensive foundation, but with the right coaching, it won’t take long for him to elevate his game. Hornacek just may be the coach to tap into his potential.
