NBA Free Agency 2016: 5 worst fits for Dwyane Wade
4. Dallas Mavericks
What’s wrong with the Dallas Mavericks, you ask? Well, Mark Cuban is a great owner and a smart businessman, but Wade has reportedly been ignoring him since the 2006 NBA Finals when Pat Riley’s Heat downed Avery Johnson’s Mavs in six games. Why? No one is quite sure, but that’s what Cuban told reporters recently.
That makes the report claiming Wade has put feelers out to both the Mavericks and Spurs relatively confusing. I’m sure Cuban was probably just as puzzled as everyone else was.
Rick Carlisle is one of the league’s top coaches, but he might be dealing with a depleted roster next season. After missing out on DeAndre Jordan in controversial fashion last offseason, the Mavericks went from a prominent title contender to an 42-40 squad which barely held onto sixth place in the Western Conference.
Now, Dirk Nowitzki has informed the team he’ll be opting out of his contract to become a free agent and why not? The big power forward probably wants to win an NBA title before he retires and he knows it likely won’t happen with the Mavericks.
That should be an instant red flag for Wade. He would be joining a potential Dirk-less roster with Chandler Parsons and Deron Williams also becoming free agents. Who knows who Cuban will be able to re-sign, but if Wade chooses Dallas, he may be kissing his NBA title hopes goodbye.
