NBA Free Agency: 5 best fits for Rajon Rondo
1. Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings might just be the best and worst destination for Rajon Rondo as he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
It is widely understood that Sacramento is one of the worst, if not the worst, run organization in the NBA. The Kings have not made the playoffs in 10 years and have had 10 different coaches in 11 seasons, finally firing George Karl after rumors swirled that he was on his way out the door as soon as he was hired.
There is absolutely no stability at any level of the organization and Kings owner Vivek Ranadive is finding that running an NBA franchise is much more difficult than coaching his 13-year-old daughter’s team. And a re-branded logo and a new stadium won’t wash away any of these dirty, awful stains.
Yet, Rondo had a bit of a career revival, averaging double-double while compiling career-highs in both assists and rebounds. With Darren Collision the only other option at point currently on the roster and the Kings unable to attract any marquee free agents this summer, Rondo is probably the best available player. The Kings are also in no position to let a player averaging a double-double walk out the door.
Lastly, with Cousins moments away from demanding a trade, Sacramento would be wise to appease their superstar player.
