Winner: Detroit Pistons

Stan Van Gundy is proving to be the best thing to happen to the Detroit Pistons in a long time. He’s turned the roster into one of the brightest futures in the league and he continues to make savvy deals with his roster.

After a strong drafted added to an already deep roster filled with young talent, the Detroit Pistons made a couple of moves on Friday. The first thing they did was sign point guard Ish Smith to a three-year deal worth $18 million.

Under the new market, that is an absolute steal for a great backup point guard that is going to bring a ton of energy and chemistry to the team. In his stints around the league, Smith has proven to be a quality player and he’s going to make Detroit an even stronger team.

The other move they made was re-signing restricted free agent Andre Drummond. This move was expected and comes as no surprise, but the Pistons didn’t let it drag on and paid him exactly what he is worth.

Detroit has a strong core with added young pieces and veteran depth. Van Gundy continues to show off his brilliance with each passing move that he makes and it’s only a matter of time before Detroit starts ascending in the Eastern Conference.
