NBA Free Agency 2016: Power Ranking Day 1 signings
By Mark Gunnels
It’s truly amazing to think that Andre Drummond is only 22-years-old.
Yes, this grown man is barely old enough to drink and now he’s set for life after his max contract. While leading Detroit to the playoffs, Drummond posted career-highs in points (16.2) and rebounds (14.8).
Drummond and the Pistons agreed on a five-year contract worth $130 million.
The 6-foot-11 center first year salary will be $26 million.
When looking at their games, Drummond reminds you of a young Dwight Howard. With his ability to score off alley-oops, put-backs and etc to go along with his elite rebounding and defense, it’s easy to see the comparison.
Oh yeah, both guys are also very bad at the free throw line, which is one comparison fans hope Drummond can erase over time.
At the end of the day, under the guidance of Stan Van Gundy, Pistons fans can only hope Drummond can be a resemblance of what Dwight Howard was during his time in Orlando.
While Howard didn’t do it by himself, he engineered Orlando’s run to the NBA finals back in 2009 when they eventually fell short to Kobe and the Los Angeles Lakers in five games.
This contract makes Drummond the highest paid player in Pistons history.
