Caron Butler has been waived in Sacramento. Several sources are saying that he could end up in Miami, where he started his career.

Caron Butler has played for nine different NBA teams during his long career. Despite being waived by the Sacramento Kings, that number might stay at nine, as the Heat might be interested in reacquiring their former 10th overall draft pick.

The Miami Heat are still reeling from trying to get Dwyane Wade to stay around after low balling the lifelong Miami Heat guard. They recently decided that the only way to keep Wade around was to match his income from last year, $20 million ($40 million over two years). If Wade decides that staying in Miami is good for him, the Heat won’t have much cap room due to the massive payday that’s being given out to Hassan Whiteside. Butler would likely be apt to take a pay cut for minutes however, as the Kings only used him in 17 games.

Butler hasn’t been used as an every-game starter since his stint with the L.A. Clippers in 2012, when he started 78 games. Since then, he’s made regular appearances with the Pistons, Bucks, and Thunder, but hasn’t been a part of a starting rotation since playing with Chris Paul and the Clippers.

This is Butler’s 17th season in the NBA, and as he’s beginning to age, his help will come from his veteran experience rather than his athleticism. Butler can still make an impact in today’s NBA, but he needs to be a part of the right organization.
