MLB All-Star Game 2016: 5 biggest AL snubs
By Brad Weiss
1. George Springer, OF, Houston Astros
It is not very often that a player who ranks in the top-ten in multiple categories in his league gets left off a roster of the best players in that league. However, that is the case this year for George Springer, the electric outfielder for the Houston Astros.
To date, Springer is ranked seventh in three different categories, including home runs (19), runs (61), and walks (45). At 26-years old, Springer is becoming one of the top young outfielders in the American League, as should definitely be included in the Midsummer Classic.
The Houston Astros have three of the more exciting young players in baseball, as Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, and Springer have reignited a franchise that had fallen on hard times. Springer is the leadoff hitter for the Astros, and has a great batting eye. His tools are a big reason the Astros are in second in the AL West behind the surprising Texas Rangers.
The players voted in Ian Desmond, Carlos Beltran, and Mark Trumbo as reserves in the outfield, so obviously there is not a premium on defense. Springer has hit just as well as those players, and he can flat out play in the outfield.
Springer will have a chance to be voted in, as he will be a part of the Esurance Final Vote. If he is selected to appear, it will be his first All-Star Game appearance, though it likely will not be his last.
