9. The First Game

1933 was the first year the American League and National League met up to have an official All-Star Game.

The event was held in Chicago at Comiskey Park decades before disco died at the ballpark.

The final score was 4-2 in favor of the AL, but the players who took part are much more memorable than the final score. The same goes for the two managers, as both Connie Mack and John McGraw are two of the greatest managers in MLB history.

The AL had a roster featuring the likes of Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, and Lou Gehrig among others, while the NL had Carl Hubbell, Bill Terry and Pie Traynor take the field in the inaugural game.

The highlight of the game was a Babe Ruth home run, which was the first home run in All-Star Game history.

It is easy to get nostalgic about these past games and think of the legends who took part, but it truly is special when a majority of the players who took part ended up in the Hall of Fame. That is not something that can be said about any recent All-Star Games, at least not for a few decades.

The event was started as a lighthearted exhibition, evolving into the important matchup it is today.
