8. Honoring Ted Williams

The 1999 All-Star Game in Boston was one of the most memorable of all-time. The game itself was a 4-1 victory for the AL, but the ceremonies before the game are what made the game so special.

Along with bringing out the legends of the game as part of the All-Century Team, Ted Williams was honored pregame before he threw out the first pitch.

The amount of legendary players on the field at the same time was a special moment for baseball fans of all ages, while personally honoring Ted Williams was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for anyone in attendance.

Williams is considered to be one of the greatest hitters of all-time and is the last player to hit over .400 in an MLB season, which he did in 1941. He managed to have a great career while taking breaks to serve in the military, which is unheard of in today’s landscape of professional sports.

Being able to step away from something he was great at to serve a greater cause makes Williams more than just a baseball hero, but an American hero. He also was able to come back from serving in World War II and continue to be one of the best players in the league.

Everything he did in his life made him worthy of such a celebration at Fenway Park back in 1999.
