10 best MLB All-Star Game moments of all-time
6. Stan Musial’s Walk-off
St. Louis Cardinals legend Stan Musial appeared in 24 All-Star Games, but his performance in the 1955 contest is his most memorable.
The AL got out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning, holding a 5-0 lead heading into the seventh inning. The NL countered and tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, sending the game to extras.
It went all the way to the bottom of the 12th inning when Musial came to the plate and hit a walk-off home run in front of the crowd in Milwaukee.
In a time when loyalty in sports seems to be decreasing by the minute, Musial was a star on the Cardinals for his entire 22-year career. Most athletes now have a tough time staying in one place for four years.
The 1955 All-Star Game came before an MVP was named, but Musial would have easily added that award to his list of honors if it had existed at the time.
He went on to appear in the All-Star Game until his final season in 1963 when he entered as a reserve outfielder behind Tommy Davis, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. Nice company to be in at the end of one’s career.
Musial’s walk-off home run was special, but it was not the first of its kind.
