10 best MLB All-Star Game moments of all-time
5. Ted Williams Walk-Off
Ted Williams makes another appearance on this list and this time it is because of something he did as a player in an All-Star Game.
The 1941 All-Star Game was Wiliams’ second appearance in the event, but it may go down as his most memorable.
The AL entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 5-2. After one run came across, Williams came to the plate with two runners on and two outs. To what is surprising to no one in hindsight, he hit a three-run walk-off home run to give the AL a dramatic victory.
This came at a time when Williams’ legend was still beginning and before he took a few years off to serve in the military during World War II. The walk-off home run served almost as a teaser for what was to come once the war ended and Williams returned to baseball.
It also made his return to Fenway Park in 1999 that much more special, as he returned to the All-Star Game as one of the event’s greatest participants.
The 1941 season was also the year when Williams finished with a batting average over .400, making the season one of the greatest of all-time for any individual player in MLB history.
