2. Trade Daniel Hudson

Relief pitcher Daniel Hudson has had an interesting run in Arizona. His career topped out in 2011 when he had a 16-12 record and a 3.49 ERA. Injuries and inconsistency have since rendered him a relief pitcher. He still has enough upside and velocity that teams could view as a useful piece in a playoff push. Arizona should jump at the opportunity to trade Hudson, who is a free agent after this season.

Even if the Diamondbacks would like to bring back Hudson after this season, trading him at the deadline would help them improve their team. Arizona would be wise to trade him and then re-sign him after this season. He has a 4.91 ERA, but his 3.81 FIP suggests he has been a bit unlucky. The terrible defense behind him certainly hasn’t helped his cause.

While Arizona likely wouldn’t get that much of a haul for Hudson, getting something is better than losing him for nothing after this season. It’s been a wild ride for Hudson in Arizona, but it’s one that must come to an end for the benefit of both team and player.
