2. Dan Straily to Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are going to need arms, and they are going to need them bad. They currently rank 29th in fielding independent pitching (FIP) and expected fielding independent pitching (Xfip). While the Reds do happen to rank 30th in each of those stats, Straily has been their only consistent pitcher.

He is no sort of ace or rotation fixer. Still, the Rangers are going to need innings, and he may be one of the better options they’ll have. The Rangers have started 10 pitchers this year. Recently that includes Kyle Lohse, signed off the street and potentially injured after one start, and Chi Chi Gonzalez, just optioned back down to AAA after giving up 13 runs in 10 innings. Derek Holland and Colby Lewis and Yu Darvish are all on the DL.

That would leave them with Nick Martinez, Martin Perez, Cesar Ramos, AJ Griffin and Cole Hamels. This season, Straily would have been the third best pitcher of those five. Straily also would have thrown the third most innings on the team to date.

When talking about Straily this is still a player with a 4.35 ERA in 2016 with a career 4.53. He does not solve all of the Rangers problem but can help plug the leak before it gets too deep.

For the Reds, they would love to take an asset for Straily. He had done a serviceable job for them but they just picked him up this year, seemingly to eat innings for them. He did his job, and now may have a chance to play for a contender. All the while the Reds are able to find some hope for tomorrow.
