MLB Trade Deadline: 5 trades Rockies should make
2. Jorge De La Rosa to Orioles
Many close to the Rockies have speculated that if a player is to be moved at the trade deadline, bet on it being De La Rosa. It makes a lot of sense, he is a free agent next year, but is a pitcher that can give a contending team innings as a fifth pitcher. He is 35, and making $12 million dollars this year. The Rockies do not need to bring that back unless they have to next season.
That said, the Orioles need pitching like whales need water. For example, Ubaldo Jimenez ranks second on their team in starts with 17. He has a 7.38 ERA. The Orioles have no depth and there is no way their bats will hold off the Boston Red Sox if they do not make some type of move.
Baltimore is not much of an upgrade in terms of pitcher friendly ballparks, and De La Rosa comes in with a 5.71 ERA himself. But like Logan, the Rockies need to recover something for De La Rosa if he will not be in their off-season plans.
Teams like the Rangers, and the Red Sox may also be looking for a back end guy as well, and the hope is the Rockies can find the lucky ticket.
