Shortstop

High-Salary Option: Zack Cozart-Cincinnati Reds (4,000): Of the four shortstops at the top of the salary structure tonight, Cozart is my favorite although I don’t love his matchup.  He’s still the best of the foursome since he’s playing at home at Great American Ballpark against the Brewers.  Cozart had multiple hits in five of his last eight games including three games with home runs to raise his OPS to a healthy .799 on the season.  Tonight, he takes on Matt Garza who he has gone just 3-16 (.188) against in his career, but he has definitely stepped his offense up to a new level this season and will look to keep that rolling tonight.

Mid-Range Option: Xander Bogaerts-Boston Red Sox (3,400)Bogaerts continues to be under-priced even though he averages more fantasy points per game than any other SS on the board.  He posted at least 12 fantasy points in four of his seven games before the All Star break and has made a habit of battering the Yankees.  He went 10-26 (.385) against New York in the earlier matchups this season, and will look to continue that trend at Yankee Stadium tonight. ∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Tim Anderson-Chicago White Sox (3,000): Anderson collected multiple hits in five of his last ten games before the break and continues to hit atop a solid White Sox lineup.  Tonight, the Sox open their series in Los Angeles against lefty Hector Santiago. Anderson has a limited sample size against southpaws, but he has gone 6-18 (.333) with a homer and a double for a healthy .924 OPS. At 3K, he’s a very nice play as long as he continues to hit leadoff for Chicago.∗∗∗

High-Value Option: Brandon Crawford-San Francisco Giants (2,900): Crawford went 8-17 in the week leading up to the All Star break on a very nice homstand.  He raised his average to .281 with that run and boosted his OPS to an even .800.  Crawford and the Giants are on the road tonight at Petco Park against the Padres in a  matchup to attack.  He’ll face San Diego starter Andrew Cashner tonight, who he has gone 7-17 (.412) against in his career with a homer and six RBI. Crawford is a great value at under 3K.∗∗∗

High-Value Option: Asdrubal Cabrera-New York Mets (2,500): Cabrera is a decent chip play with upside as evidenced by his four games in his last eight before the break with at least 18 fantasy points. Cabrera and the Mets are in a good matchup in Phily, and he’s one of the few options at this price point that hit near the middle of his team’s lineup.
