FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-July 15
High Salary OF
George Springer-Houston Astros (3,900): Springer hit .262 in the first half with a healthy .832 OPS. He fared especially well against lefties going 24-87 (.276) with a .928 OPS. Tonight, he’ll start against southpaw James Paxton in Seattle making him a nice pickup at under 4K as he starts the second half. ∗∗∗
Giancarlo Stanton-Miami Marlins (3,700): Stanton will be extremely widely owned tonight coming off his All Star week showcase at the Home Run Derby. However, the reason he deserves a look tonight is more for what he did before the break. So far in July, Stanton is 11-34 (.324) and has five homers to go with ten RBI. He raised his average on the year to a still-low .233 but his OPS reflects his power numbers with a .823 mark coming into tonight’s game.
Stanton starts the second half against the Cardinals Jaime Garcia tonight who he is 2-4 against in his career with a home run. He has actually hit lefties pretty well all season going 16-64 (.250) against southpaws with a .942 OPS. He is a great value and almost a must-play tonight in St. Louis. ∗∗∗∗∗
Mark Trumbo-Baltimore Orioles (3,600): Another Home Run Derby participant, Mark Trumbo makes a good play as he looks to extend his hitting streak to nine games. He went 12-31 in his last eight games before the break including five homers and five games with more than 12 fantasy points. He takes on Chris Archer and the Rays to open the second half at the Trop.∗∗∗
Marcelo Ozuna-Miami Marlins (3,600): If you want to go against the flow of everyone picking Stanton or team him up with another Marlins outfielder, check out Marcell Ozuna who comes into the second half hitting .307 with 17 homers and a .893 OPS. He has absolutely crushed left-handed pitching coming into tonight’s game against Jaime Garcia 28-76 (.368) off southpaws with a 1.165 OPS. ∗∗∗∗
Mookie Betts-Boston Red Sox (3,500): Betts is available at a reduced rate tonight for reasons I’m not quite sure of. I guess it’s because of the matchup against Pineda, but the Yankees’ starter gave up five runs in his last start, so he’s definitely not unhittable. Betts will be out to prove that again tonight as he looks to continue a strong season. He hit .304 in the first half with a .869 OPS and 15 stolen bases in 16 attempts. Betts will enter tonight with an 11-game hitting streak hitting .450 (18-40) so far in the month of July. Betts has homered twice in his career off of Pineda and is 5-17 (.294) overall against him. ∗∗∗∗∗
Tyler Naquin-Cleveland Indians (3,400): Paquin is 2-2 in his career against tonight’s starter Ervin Santana and has hit righties well all season. The 25-year old Texan started July 8-31 (.258) but has connected on three homers in his last five starts driving his OPS to an impressive .965. In a scoring system like FanDuel where extra bases, runs, and RBI are richly rewarded, give Naquin a look even though he’s usually in the bottom third of the Indians order.∗∗∗
Andrew McCutchen-Pittsburgh Pirates (3,300): McCutchen had a rough first half, but he showed signs of life in his bat in the last six games before the All Star break. During that span, Cutch went 9-23 with two homers and posted at least 15 fantasy points in four of his last five games. He starts the second half in a tough matchup against Stephen Strasburg which makes him a high-risk, high-reward play at this price tonight. ∗∗
