Catcher

High-Salary Option: Salvador Perez-Kansas City Royals (3,400): Perez went 1-4 with a double last night against Justin Verlander and the Tigers in his first game back after the break.  He is hitting .282 on the  year with a solid .817 OPS.  Facing Detroit has been great for Perez so far this season as he has gone 14-32 (.438) against the Tigers with three homers and a gaudy 1.330 OPS.

Tonight, Perez will face Mike Pelfrey who he is 5-18 (.278) against in his career. Pelfrey has been up-and-down throughout the year and enters tonight 2-8, so look for Perez to continue torturing the Tigers as he has all season.∗∗

Mid-range Option: Victor Martinez-Detroit Tigers (3,200): My mid-range option comes from the other side of that same matchup as the Tigers face lefty Danny Duffy.  Victor Martinez has had success against Duffy in the past going 9-25 (.360) with a pair of homers. V-Mart is still hitting .305 on the season despite a slow start to July, but look for him to turn that around tonight in a good matchup at home at Comerica Park.∗∗∗

High-Value Option: J.T. Realmuto-Miami Marlins (2,800): Realmuto  has been red hot to start the month going 15-38 (.395) with ten runs scored, a home run, and three RBI.  He is the rare leadoff option from behind the plate and is 20-55 (.364) with a .852 OPS when hitting atop the Marlins lineup.  Realmuto even has nine steals in his 11 attempts this season.  Tonight, the Marlins are in St. Louis after a nice 7-6 comeback win last night, and Realmuto and the rest of the lineup will face Adam Wainwright. It will be the first time for Realmuto, but I still think he’s hitting well enough to be a nice option behind the plate at under 3K.∗∗∗

Bonus Bargain Basement Option: Geovany Soto-Los Angeles Angels (2,000): Soto added some nice punch to the Angels lineup last night going 2-3 with a double and an RBI.  He has started each of the last two games for LA since returning from a knee injury which kept him sidelined since mid-May.  On the season, he is now hitting .284 in his 22 games, and it looks like he’ll be the top opting behind the plate for Manager Mike Scioscia going forward. Soto and the Halos face James Shields and the White Sox as they look t make it two in a row to start the second half.
