MLB Trade Deadline: 5 best spots for Chris Archer
By Jason Parker
Don’t look now, but as much as it may pain those outside of South Florida (and some inside) to believe, the Miami Marlins are actually in the playoff hunt and could be in it for much of the second half of the season. Right now, the Marlins are actually one of the two holders of a Wild Card berth and have an outside shot of winning the first division title in franchise history.
If the cheap front office and even cheaper owner decide that they want to make a run at the playoffs, they have enough minor league talent that they could offer plenty to their in-state foes in an effort to get some temporary talent that will help them get a third World Series title. One of the areas of need is a pitching staff with a horrible ERA outside of Jose Fernandez
Another advantage is that there is no way Archer would be traded to any team in the American League East – and possibly not even any team in the AL. Tampa Bay would want to keep him as far away from them as possible schedule wise, which is perfect since they would only play the Marlins four times at the most each season on the schedule.
