Creating a Team USA Olympics football roster using NFL athletes
7. Defensive Line
J.J. Watt, Houston Texans
Arguably the best defensive player in the entire NFL, J.J. Watt is the easiest selection for this team besides Gronkowski at tight end. A freak athlete with an elite combination of power and quickness, Watt is a dominant force on the defensive line.
He is a top-notch pass rusher who also absolutely dominates as a run defender. Watt is an incredible defensive player who also has great versatility up front. Watt can easily play all across the defensive line in both three and four man front.
On top of all that, he is probably the most patriotic player in the entire NFL. Watt is an obvious choice for Team USA.
Aaron Donald, Los Angeles Rams
Aaron Donald is quickly giving Watt a run for his money as the most dominant defensive player in the NFL. Donald is not quite on that level yet, but I would not be surprised to see him make a serious run at NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.
Donald is a bit under-sized at defensive tackle, but his quickness and all-around pass rush ability is elite. He is definitely best served as a three-technique in a four-man defensive front, but similar to Watt, Donald has the skill-set to shine in anything that he does.
Marcell Dareus, Buffalo Bills
Marcell Dareus may not be the most obvious selection here, but he is undoubtedly one of the best interior defensive linemen in the entire NFL. At 6-foot-3, 331 pounds, Dareus is a massive man who can stuff up the run game in the middle.
While his ability to two gap and defend the run makes him particularly interesting for this team full of ball-hawking defenders, Dareus has the quickness and athleticism to make plays as a pass rusher from the interior.
Dareus would be fantastic for Team USA as their nose guard in the 3-4 defense or a one-technique defensive tackle in a 4-3. He is a fantastic player with massive upside, and his versatility is a key here.
