8. Edge Defenders

Wanting to be able to play both a 4-3 defense or 3-4 defense is key here as we take a look at the best edge defenders for this group. These two players are not only among the best at their position in the NFL, they offer incredible versatility on the field.

Von Miller, Denver Broncos

Fresh off of getting paid the largest contract for any defensive player in NFL history, Von Miller makes the Team USA roster. Miller has always been a disruptive pass rusher who makes plays for the Broncos off of the edge, but his performance down the stretch last season was legendary.

Miller led an incredible Broncos’ defense through the post season, piling up a combined five sacks in the AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl. He was named Super Bowl MVP for his 2.5 sack, two forced fumble performance against the Carolina Panthers, and was a huge reason for their success.

Miller is also strong against the run and solid in pass coverage. He is an incredibly athletic player who can impact the game in a variety of ways. On this Team USA roster, Wade Phillips could line Miller up as a 3-4 outside rush linebacker, a 4-3 stand-up linebacker or a 4-3 defensive end.

One thing is for sure, he will dominate no matter what he is doing.

Khalil Mack, Oakland Raiders

Teaming up with Miller on the outside is one of the best young defensive players in the entire NFL. Khalil Mack has similar pass rush upside of Miller on the outside, and is even better as a more complete linebacker for the Raiders.

Mack is an absolute force on the defensive side of the ball, and has shown incredible versatility in the Raiders’ defense. He can impact a game in a variety of ways and would be a fantastic addition to the Team USA defense.

Belichick and the coaching staff could look to Mack to provide even more versatility that Miller, who is probably best used as a full-time rush specialist.
