FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-July 18
High Value OF
Khris Davis-Oakland Athletics (3,200): Davis swatted three home runs over the weekend series with the Blue Jays helping Oakland take two of three against their former teammate Josh Donaldson’s new team. Davis now has 22 homers on the season and is hitting .256 with a .797 OPS. Tonight, Davis and the A’s will face their division-rival Houston Astros and Mike Fiers who Davis is 1-3 against in his career. Davis has hit much better at home than on the road this season, so playing in Oakland he’s a option that makes sense at this price point.∗∗
Kevin Kiermaier-Tampa Bay Rays (3,200): Keirmaier was just activated from the DL last Friday and is 0-8 with two walks since returning to the Rays’ lineup. His lack of production has kept his price affordable even though the Rays are in Colorado tonight against Brett Anderson. Since Anderson is a lefty, there’s a chance Kiermaier won’t start tonight, but if he does he has nice potential since he’s playing in the rarified air of Coors Field which makes him a wild card play for tonight.∗
Giancarlo Stanton-Miami Marlins (3,100): Stanton has produced a pair of good games in his three games since the All Star break with 21.7 and 24.9 fantasy points around a dud on Saturday. He is just 1-18 against the Phillies this year, but he has been hitting much better in July (15-45, .333, 5 HR). I really like him at this price in a field where he has a 1.147 OPS over the past three seasons.∗∗∗∗∗
Cameron Maybin-Detroit Tigers (3,100): Maybin has been a regular in my FanDuel daily picks since J.D. Martinez’s injury opened up playing time for Maybin. At home this season, Maybin is hitting .429 with a 1.001 OPS and he has started July 13-45 (.289) with a homer and five RBI. Maybin is an impressive 5-7 against tonight’s starter Ricky Nolasco although all five hits have been singles.∗∗∗∗
Nelson Cruz-Seattle Mariners (3,000): Cruz is discounted tonight since he’s facing the White Sox’ Ace Chris Sale. However, Sale has struggled a bit in his last few starts, and Cruz has gone 7-16 (.438) against him in the past including a pair of homers. Cruz has feasted on lefties all season and comes into tonight 32-105 (.305) against southpaws with a 1.083 OPS. Even against Sale, Cruz is a good play tonight. ∗∗∗
Tyler Naquin-Cleveland Indians (2,900): Another hitter who is at a cheaper price than usual tonight is the Tribe’s Tyler Paquin who is under 3K as he faces Edinson Volquez and the Royals. Paquin has at least 15 fantasy points in each of his last two games and in five of his last eight. He has four homers during that stretch and has become a big part of the Tribe’s surge into the front of the pack in the AL Central. ∗∗∗
Matt Kemp-San Diego Padres (2,700): Kemp homered in each of his last two games and now has 18 long balls not he year to go with his .255 average and 61 RBI. He runs into Mike Leake as he’s starting to get hot, but he has a lot of upside for this low price. ∗∗
Michael Conforto-New York Mets (2,400): The Mets are planning on recalling uber-prospect Michael Conforto before today’s game against Chicago. He tore up Triple-A with a 1.043 OPS while hitting .344. If he does get the start he’ll be facing a tough lefty-lefty matchup against Jon Lester, but he’d definitely worth watching while his price is this low. ∗
