Nick Tropeano-Los Angeles Angels (7,000): Tropeano takes the mound tonight for the Angels after the team swept the White Sox to start the second half allowing just one run total in the three games in the series.  Tropeano will look to continue the run of strong starts, but he’ll have to deal with a tough Texas lineup as he looks to get his first win back after missing all of June on the DL.

In his two starts since returning, Tropeano has allowed three total runs in 11 innings (2.45 ERA) while striking out 12.  He has a total of 66 punch outs in his 66.1 innings on the season, and his high strikeout rate makes him an attractive option at just 7K.  Tropeano beat Texas earlier this year allowing four hits in 6.2 shutout innings in Arlington, and he’ll look to put together a similar outing tonight. It’s not an ideal matchup, but I still think Tropeano has a ton of upside at this price tonight. ∗∗∗

Mike Leake-St. Louis Cardinals (6,900): Another cheap play with upside tonight is Mike Leake who has long been known as a streak pitcher and may be starting to get things headed in the right direction.  He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last six starts and seven of his last ten.

In his last outing, he struck out ten Brewers while allowing just one run in seven innings to improve to 6-7 on the season.  He hadn’t struck out more than six in any start this season before that outing, but he should be in a place to pick up some K’s again tonight since he’s facing the Padres who are third in the MLB in strikeouts.  Leake did get knocked around a little in his earlier start against San Diego, but he appears to be rounding into form and has a good lineup behind him as he tries to get a W to start the second half.
