1. Kansas City Royals

The Royals gave up on Omar Infante in June, and after a hot start Whit Merrifield has faded offensively (13 strikeouts over his last 38 plate appearances) as the team’s new second baseman.

Kansas City is reported to be in the market for starting pitching heading toward the trade deadline. But rumors have also attached them to some offensive players too, including outfielders Josh Reddick, Carlos Beltran and Jay Bruce, so it’s not a big leap to expect some potential interest in trading for Dozier if the Twins are entertaining offers.

The Royals are near the bottom of the American League across the board offensively. They’re notably last in home runs (82), and second-to-last in runs scored (371) as well as RBI (353).

Trading within your own division is sometimes hard to do, due to mostly flimsy reasons, but the Twins should have no qualms about dealing Dozier to Kansas City. The idea of being fleeced by Royals’ general manager Dayton Moore may turn Antony away from engaging in serious trade talks, and that would be understandable on some level. But if a proverbial “offer he can’t refuse” comes, Dozier could easily be headed to the defending World Champions as they look to make a late-season run back to the postseason.
