High Value OF

Kole Calhoun-Los Angeles Angels (3,000): Calhoun has produced a pair of games over 18 fantasy points in the first two games of the Angels series with the Rangers and is definitely benefiting from Albert Pujols and Mike Trout heating up behind him.  Calhounis now 14-53 (.264) this month but 17-39 (.436) against the Rangers this season.  He is in a lefty-lefty matchup tonight against Martin Perez, but he actually has a higher average, OBP, and slugging percentage against southpaws this season.  Calhoun should continue to be valuable as long as he hits second in front of such a productive stretch of the LA lineup.

Brock Holt-Boston Red Sox (2,900): Holt is one of my go-to options at under 3K whenever the Red Sox face a right-handed pitcher like they will tonight when Matt Cain comes off the DL to face them.  Holt has hit safely in all eight games he has played this month and has at least six fantasy points in each of those contests.  He hit his fifth homer of the season last night against Jake Peavy and is 10-27 (.370) now in July.  Look for him to continue to be a nice value as long as he’s under 3K since he’s always in the middle of whatever the Red Sox offense has going on.

Randal Grichuk-St. Louis Cardinals (2,800): If Grichuk plays in tonight’s Game 2 against Paul Clemens and the Padres, he’ll be a great value at 2,800.  He has at least 15 fantasy points in four of his last five games and has four homers in his last eight. The Cardinals are quickly losing their depth to injury which should mean Grichuk plays tonight in this good matchup.

Joey Rickard-Baltimore Orioles (2,600): I’m a big fan of Rickard at this price if he continues to hit #2 in the Orioles lineup in front of the big bats in the heart of their lineup.  Rickard should keep getting starts with Hyn Soo Kim hitting the DL this week.

He went 2-4 last night with a double and RBI and has hit safely in four of his last five games.  Rickard doesn’t have elite power or speed but is a solid contributor in a good situation if he starts and hits second against Michael Pineda tonight. ∗∗

Scott Van Slyke-Los Angeles Dodgers  (2,300): Another cheap OF who could get a start tonight is Scott Van Slyke who has tone 8-12 in his last four games with a double and a pair of runs scored.  Joc Pederson is back from the DL, but with a lefty on the mound for Washington tonight, Manager Dave Roberts may elect to go with Van Slyke’s right-handed bat instead. In his very limited playing time this season Van Slyke is 7-22 (.218) against southpaws with a home run and three doubles.
