FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-July 19
High Value SP
Jaime Garcia-St. Louis Cardinals (8,000): Garcia has allowed four runs or more in three of his last four starts, but he’s one of the better options in the mid-range on today’s limited slate. On the year, Garcia is 6-6 with a 4.11 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. He has been right around those numbers so far in July as well going 1-0 with a 4.19 ERA in his three starts.
Garcia hasn’t faced the Padres in any of his last three-and-a-half seasons, but he is in a favorable matchup against a lineup that may be a bit watered down due to the double-header and against opposing starting pitcher Paul Clemens who has yet to show he’s ready for the Majors. Garcia has a good shot at a win tonight, but you’ll want to get some reliable bats to pair with the veteran southpaw. ∗∗
Jeff Locke-Pittsburgh Pirates (6,400): The high-value plays for tonight are a pretty risky bunch, but they should leave you enough salary to stock up on some premium bats. One option that does have good upside is Jeff Locke of the Pirates. The lefty has won each of his last three decisions to improve to 8-5. He has been working out of the bullpen due to the Pirates’ schedule around the All-Star break, but he’ll get the start tonight at home against the Brewers.
Locke is 5-1 this year at PNC Park with a 2.81 ERA (as opposed to 3-4, 7.47 ERA on the road). He doesn’t strike out enough batters to be an elite option, for sure, but he can get a win if he puts together a solid outing. He pitches to contact, but has been relatively effective at limiting the damage at PNC Park.∗
