Catcher

High-Salary Option: Buster Posey-San Francisco Giants (3,400):  Posey went 0-3 in Boston last night and is just 3-16 (.188) since the break.  The reason for optimism tonight, though, is that he does have a very good career history against Drew Pomeranz having gone 6-13 (.462) in their previous meetings including a pair of homers.  Posey has hit lefties well all season and comes into tonight with a .951 OPS against southpaws.∗∗

High-Salary Option: Jonathan Lucroy-Milwaukee Brewers (3,300): Another backstop with a good history against his opponent, Lucroy has gone 10-26 (.385) against Jeff Locke in his career with a home run, seven RBI, and six walks.  Lucroy has been hitting better than Posey lately with at least one hit in each of his last eight straight starts and multiple hits in four of those contests.∗∗∗

Mid-range Option: J.T. Realmuto-Miami Marlins (3,000): Realmuto continues to lead off for the Marlins and now has at least nine fantasy points in five of his last six games.  For the month he’s 18-50 (.360) after going 2-4 with a walk last night to lift is average to .316 on the season. He is just 1-9 in his career against tonight’s starter Jeremy Hellickson, but he’s hitting very well right now and still a solid play at 3K especially hitting atop the Miami attack.∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Derek Norris-San Diego Padres (2,900)Norris could be in a good matchup if he gets the start in Game 2 tonight against Jaime Garcia.  Norris is hitting .260 on the year against lefties like Garcia while hitting just .188 against righties.  Norris also has had slightly better numbers away from Petco Park. He’s a boom or bust play tonight if he starts against Garcia.∗∗

High-Value Option: Jett Bandy-Los Angeles Angels (2,500): Bandy went 2-3 with a homer last night against the Rangers for an impressive 25.2 fantasy points. Since Geovany Soto is out again with an injury, look for Bandy to keep getting plenty of work behind the plate for the Angels.  He’s 9-29 (.310) this month with that homer from last night and a pair of doubles.  Tonight, he’ll face Martin Perez in a good matchup since he has hit lefties well this year compiling a 1.389 OPS in his limited 18 at bats against southpaws. Bandy is a really nice cheap play given that success.

High-Value Option: Francisco Cervelli-Pittsburgh Pirates (2,200): Cervelli made his first start in more than a month last night against the Brewers and went 0-2 with a walk, an RBI, and even a stolen base on his way to 12.5 fantasy points. Cervelli was hitting the ball pretty well before his hand injury, and with the Pirates lack of other options I expect him to be back behind the plate tonight. He’s high-risk so recently returning from injury, but there is upside tonight in a good matchup against Chase Anderson.
