Third Baseman

High-Salary Option: Yangervis Solarte-San Diego Padres (3,600): Solarte is a regular in my FanDuel daily picks, but this is the first time he’s been a “high-salary” play since he usually costs much less than this.  He has started July on a tear, though, going 19-57 (.333) with five homers, ten runs scored, and 15 RBI.  He has hit safely in nine of his last ten and is especially worth checking out tonight since he is taking on a lefty Jaime Garcia. Solarte has never faced Garcia but he is 17-47 (.362) against southpaws this season with a 1.061 OPS.∗∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Martin Prado-Miami Marlins (3,200)Prado hit the game-winning home run Monday giving him three long balls on the season to go with a .316 average.  He has picked that average up by going 17-53 (.321) this month with five doubles and a homer.  He doesn’t offer elite power or speed but continues to be a steady mid-range option.∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Martin Prado-Miami Marlins (2,900)Prado has started July 16-44 (.364) with five doubles, five walks, and five runs scored to raise his average on the season to .322.  He has been especially productive on the road where he is hitting an impressive .388 with a .906 OPS.  Tonight, he and the Fish are in Phily where he’ll face Aaron Nola.  Prado is 3-6 in his career against Nola, so look for him to be on base and part of creating runs for the suddenly rolling Marlins offense.  He doesn’t have elite power or speed potential like other 3B options, but he is remarkably reliable and hitting near the top of a good lineup in a good matchup.∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Justin Turner-Los Angeles Dodgers (2,800): Turner collected three hits last night and is 8-18 (.444) since the All Star break with a pair of homers and six RBI.  Turner is 18-55 (.327) overall this month with four homers and 11 RBI. Tonight, he’s a much cheaper option than usual since he’s facing a lefty, and he has struggled this year against southpaws (14-76, .184). However, Turner is going along so well that he’s worth a look even against Gio Gonzalez who he is 2-16 against in his career.

High-Value Option: Will Middlebrooks-Milwaukee Brewers (2,100): If you’re looking for a cheap flier at the hot corner tonight, Middlebrooks will likely draw the start against lefty Jeff Locke as he continues to platoon with Hernan Perez at 3B.  Middlebrooks has gone just 3-18 (.167) since being called up, but he is 1-2 with a three-run homer off of Locke in their previous meetings. He’s a high-risk, low-cost option if he gets the nod for the Brew Crew tonight.
