Shortstop

High-Salary Option: Aledmys Diaz-St. Louis Cardinals (3,700): Diaz been on fire lately with at least six fantasy points in each of his last 10 games even though he was held hitless over the weekend.   He is 16-52 (.308) in the month of July with two doubles, two triples, three homers, nine RBI, and 11 walks.  His OPS is up to a solid .921 on the season making him a great play tonight if he starts Game 2 of the Cards-Padres double header. Paul Clemens will be a good matchup to attack, so make sure to see if Diaz is going to get the nod and get him in your lineup if he does. ∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Jonathan Villar-Milwaukee Brewers  (3,100): Villar has failed to record a hit in his last two games, but he should be in a good place to produce tonight against lefty Jeff Locke. Villar is still 15-51 (.294) on the month and hitting from the top of the Brewers lineup.  Against lefties, Villar is 31-94 (.330) this season with a .906 OPS. and he is 1-3 in his career against Locke.  If he does manage to get on, Villar offers top-notch speed and has stolen 33 bases on the season including seven in his last nine contests.

Mid-Range Option: Elvis Andrus-Texas Rangers  (2,800): Andrus has hit in seven of his last eight games with at least six fantasy points in each of those contests. He went 3-4 last night with a double, RBI, and run scored for 18.7 fantasy points. Andrus is a red-hot 17-47 (.362) this month with five doubles and 11 RBI.

Andrus will face Hector Santiago and the Angels tonight.  He doesn’t have a great history against the southpaw Santiago, but he has hit lefties very well this season going 28-74 (.378) with a healthy .978 OPS.

High-Value Option: Chris Taylor-Los Angeles Dodgers (2,400): Taylor has been finding ways to get into the lineup and contribute for the Dodgers. He has started three of LA’s last four games and gone 6-12 with five runs scored, two doubles, a triple, a homer, and six RBI.  Taylor could get another start tonight at SS if Corey Seager is still sidelined or he could slide to 2B in place of Chase Utley.  Taylor has typically hit lefties better than righties during his career, so a matchup with Gio Gonzalez is a decent one to target if you have to go cheap at SS.∗∗

High-Value Option: J.J. Hardy-Baltimore Orioles (2,100): Hardy has gone 0-6 so far in this series against the Yankees, but he is still 15-49 (.306) in July with a pair of homers.  The main reason he deserves a look at this bargain rate today, though, is his history against Yankees’ starter Michael Pineda. Hardy has gone 7-15 in his past meetings with Pineda and has three home runs and four RBI against him.∗∗∗
