The Rangers have to be the most desperate contender looking for a pitcher right now. They got Yu Darvish back but will still be looking to add more at the trade deadline. The Rangers pitching staff ranks ninth in team ERA, but ranks 30th in FIP and XFIP. What that means is some of their pitchers have got lucky, and their hard-hit balls have been fielded, or they have gotten out of situations with runners in scoring position more than other teams.

It is starting to catch up with them and they have gone 4-10 in July while throwing out guys like Cesar Ramos, Chi Chi Gonzalez, and Kye Lohse to get lit up as a fifth starter.

Ross makes this rotation absolutely serious. The Rangers have gotten off to a fast enough start that they can wait for Ross to get himself back into game shape, heck they are letting Lohse pitch through a comeback from just not being signed.

Heading into the playoffs with a potential stack of Cole Hamels, Darvish and Ross would make them the probable favorites. Those three combined with their lineup is a strong combination that will have them competing with any team.

They also have the money to extend Ross this offseason if he looks healthy. Colby Lewis is a free agent next year, and while he may come at a bargain, Ross is certainly the better pitcher for now and moving forward. They can even sign both if they are uncomfortable with the depth of the rotation. The Rangers have the farm system to get a quality pitcher like Ross, and may be able to look back and think that they bought low due to the injury and are getting a stud pitcher that takes their rotation to another level.
