1. Trade For Rich Hill

Imagine telling an Orioles fan back in 2009 that Rich Hill, who had a 7.80 ERA in 13 starts for the O’s, would be a difference maker for the Orioles in 2016. You would have been laughed at. Fast forward seven years later, and lo and behold, the O’s should trade for Hill because he would be a difference maker for a pitching starved team. Isn’t baseball funny like that?

Hill has had one heck of a journey since leaving Baltimore. He has since spent time with the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees, Red Sox (again), and currently pitches for the Oakland Athletics. Hill was primarily a left-handed specialist out of the bullpen from 2010 until 2015 when the Red Sox let him have five late-season starts.

He has been quite impressive in 2016 with the Athletics. Hill has a 2.25 ERA in 14 starts with a 2.54 FIP and an ERA+ of 185 in 2016. He recently had to exit a game with a blister, but if you don’t count that game, he has pitched 76 innings in 13 starts. That averages out to right around six innings a start. Conveniently, the Orioles only really need starters who can give them six solid innings. Their bullpen will protect just about any lead given to them.
