High Salary SP

Jose Fernandez-Miami Marlins (12,100): Fernandez is an obvious option, but he’s a great one too coming off a 14-strikeout performance earlier this week in Philadelphia.  He has at least eight K’s in four straight starts and a total of 168 in his 113.2 innings.

Strikeouts are the big differentiator on FanDuel, so getting the Fernandez at home in a matchup against the Mets is huge.  In Fernandez’s ten home starts this season he is 8-1 with a 1.53 ERA and 97 K’s in 64.2 innings.  He’s already faced the Mets twice this year allowing just one run in 12 innings and striking out 19.  He is definitely set up well for a monster night tonight, but his 12K+ salary is a hard one to squeeze under your salary cap.∗∗

Max Scherzer-Washington Nationals (11,800): Another Ace on the mound at home tonight is Scherzer who will face the Padres in a very good matchup.  In his last outing which came against the Pirates, he struck out seven in seven innings on his way to a no-decision.  He remained 10-6 on the season with a 2.94 ERA.

Scherzer enters tonight’s start leading the National League in strikeouts with 171 in his 134.2 innings. He struck out ten when he faced the Padres earlier this season while allowing one run on four hits in six innings.  Scherzer is a great play tonight as well as Fernandez, but both will force you to be creative with your remaining positions since they’re so expensive.

Cole Hamels-Texas Rangers (9,300): Hamels stated the second half with an exceptional start allowing just one unearned run to the Cubs in eight strong innings.  He struck out seven and allowed just four hits while walking no one. He improved to 10-2 on the year and has 116 K’s in 120 innings.

Hamels doesn’t have the elite strikeout numbers that Scherzer and Fernandez have, but he’s still a solid play against the Royals.  Hamels had a couple of bad outings before the break, but he definitely looked to be back on the right track his last time out.∗∗
