First Baseman

High-Salary Option: David Ortiz-Boston Red Sox (4,400): Ortiz was held hitless last night and grounded into a brutal twin-killing with the bases loaded in the ninth.  He had posted three straight games with over 12 fantasy points before yesterday’s gut-punch zero.  He should bounce back quickly, though, tonight against Ricky Nolasco.  Ortiz is 4-13 against Nolasco in his career but three of those hits have been home runs resulting in a 1.375 OPS.  on the season, Ortiz  has a 1.083 OPS with a crazy 1.209 OPS at Fenway where he’ll play tonight as long as the rain doesn’t ruin the evening (possible but not likely at this point. ∗∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option:  Albert Pujols-Los Angeles Angels (3,500): Pujols and the Angels came up empty last night against the Astros losing 2-1 to open their weekend series.  They’ll look to bounce back tonight against Collin McHugh.  Pujols has a good history against McHughcoming in 7-19 (.368) against him in  his career with a homer, four RBI, and four walks. Pujols has been very good since the All Star break and is 7-19 (.368) over the past week with four homers, 12 RBI, and three walks.∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option:  Jose Abreu-Chicago White Sox (3,400): Abreu was a perfect 3-3 last night with a double, walk, run scored, and two RBI.  He has been hitting well all month going 21-65 (.323) with seven doubles although he is still looking for his first July home run.  He may find it tonight as he faces the Tigers’ Matt Boyd who he is 2-3 against in the past including a home run.∗∗

High-Value Option: Matt Adams-St. Louis Cardinals (2,700): Adams has hit safely in six of his last seven starts and has gone 5-21 (.238) with three doubles and a homer over the last week.  He’s a boom or bust play tonight against the Dodgers’ Kenta Maeda, but he should get the start after hitting the walkoff homer in the 16th last night.

High-Value Option: Mitch Moreland-Texas Rangers (2,600): Moreland didn’t start last night against lefty Danny Duffy, but he should be back in the lineup tonight against Yordano Ventura. Moreland is 2-4 against Ventura in his career with a walk as well.  He has gone 5-16 over the last week with a pair of solo home runs.  He’s a solid play if he gets the start tonight.∗∗

Bonus Bargain Basement Option: Ryon Healy-Oakland Athletics (2,200): Healy has gone 8-28 (.286) since joining the A’s after the Alll Star break following a breakout first half in Triple-A.  He had three doubles, a home run, and six RBI and went 2-4 last night scoring the only run of the game in Oakland’s 1-0 win over Tampa.  Healy should be in the lineup tonight against lefty Drew Smyly, and he thrived against southpaws in Nashville with a .971 OPS against them. If he gets the start tonight, I like him a lot in this matchup at this price.∗∗
