Second Baseman

High-Salary OptionDaniel Murphy-Washington Nationals (3,900): After being weirdly affordable and in my FanDuel daily picks yesterday when he came through with another home run, Murphy is back to the top of the salary structure tonight against Edwin Jackson.  Murphy has at least 15 fantasy points in seven of his last nine games and has hit safely in nine in a row.  He has gone 13-30 during that span with four doubles and five homers while driving in 14.  Murphy is 5-20 (.250) with a homer in his career against Jackson, and he’s a good play again tonight since he has been on fire lately. ∗∗

High-Salary Option: Jose Altuve-Houston Astros (3,900): Altuve kept right on rolling last night continuing his blistering start to the second half going 2-4 to raise his numbers to  15-25 (.600) over the last week with  two doubles, a triple, and a home run.  He has collected multiple hits in four five games to raise his league-leading batting average to .358, and he has a great .990 OPS. He faces Jered Weaver tonight  who he has gone 13-33 (.394) against in the past with three doubles and a triple.  He’s a safer play than Murphy although Murphy does have just a little bit more power potential.

Mid-Range Option: Jason Kipnis-Cleveland Indians (3,700): Kipnis went 1-4 last night and has hit safely in nine of his last ten games. Over the last week, he is 11-24 (.458) with a double and a pair of homers and has hit .343 (24-70) so far this month to raise his average on the year to .285.  He’ll face Kevin Gausman and the Orioles again tonight as the Indians look to bounce back from last night’s 5-1 letdown.

Mid-Range Option: Jean Segura-Arizona Diamondbacks (3,100): Segura has three straight games with multiple hits and has at least 12 fantasy points in five of his last nine contests.  He homered yesterday in Cincinnati bringing his total on the year to eight.  He is 8-20 (.400) over the last week after yesterday’s big game and has raised his average to .314 and his OPS to .811 on the season.  Tonight, he’ll face Keyvius Sampson of the Reds who he has gone 2-4 against in his career with a double and an RBI.  With Great American Ballpark playing so hitter friendly, look for another solid game from Segura tonight.∗∗

High Value Option: Scooter Gennett-Milwaukee Brewers (2,700): Gennett has gotten off to a bit of a slow start to the second half going 7-31 (.226) with a pair of doubles and a home run.  Gennett had a great month in June going 29-90 (.322) with three homers and five doubles while earning himself a regular spot in the Milwaukee lineup.  Tonight, he’ll likely start against John Lackey especially since he is 5-14 (.357) against Lackey in the past with three RBI and a walk. Given his history and price point, he make some sense for tonight. ∗∗

High Value Option: Greg Garcia-St. Louis Cardinals (2,300): Garcia doesn’t start on a nightly basis, but he has provided at least six fantasy points in five straight games in which he has appeared.  He went 1-2 with a double and a walk last night in the marathon against the Dodgers, and he could draw the start today if some of the regulars are tired from the extended game last night.  Garcia has gone 9-34 (.265) this month with four doubles, eight runs scored, and a pair of RBI. ∗∗
