It’s a new era of ACC football in Blacksburg, Virginia, as former Memphis Tigers head coach Justin Fuente takes over for the best coach in Virginia Tech Hokies football history in the retired Frank Beamer.

Fuente brought surprising success to a mediocre football program at a mid-major basketball school in the University of Memphis. The Tigers were one of the best teams in the American Athletic Conference under Fuente and star quarterback Paxton Lynch became a first-round pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Not that Harris has anywhere near the star power of Lynch, but he in theory could thrive in a defense-first program like Virginia Tech behind what could surely be another great Bud Foster defense. Relocating to Virginia Tech would give Harris the opportunity to play big time Power 5 football in one of the college game’s most electric stadiums in Lane Stadium.

Given that there is no way that Florida would block a transfer to Virginia Tech and that Harris could still play in the Power 5 for a coach known for grooming dual-threat quarterbacks, there is a lot for Harris to like playing for the Hokies on fall Saturdays for maybe two more years. It all really depends on how Fuente views his quarterback situation and if he’s willing to take a chance on a troubled player like Harris.
