1. St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals are currently on the outside of the playoffs– yes you read that right. The team that has been good for what seems like 100 years has a record of 52-46 well behind the Cubs in the NL Central. For this team, Brandon Phillips wouldn’t even have to change divisions or uniform colors.

The Cardinals are running out a lineup everyday that is not great and their pitching staff is under achieving. They will win games because they are the Cardinals and they have Mike Matheny who is one of the best managers in baseball.

Phillips can give this team an extra boost everyday at second base. Currently the Cardinals have Kolten Wong. Wong has shown signs of being a solid player but this season he is batting .234 with 1 home run and 10 RBIs in 77 games of action. You may ask why don’t they just play their backup? That’s because the backup is Jedd Gyorko. Gyorko has been getting more playing time as of late.

This is a Cardinal team that is so used to playing in the post season that people just pencil them in before the season starts. When one of the best hitters of his generation, Albert Pujols, left for Anaheim, what did the Cardinals do to deal with the devastating news? They went out and won the World Series the very next season.

While the race may be all but over in the division, they still have a great chance to make it as a wild card team then who knows what could happen, experience is everything. Phillips can provide them with a veteran who has experience and is not afraid of the big moment. Don’t be surprised to see Phillips still in a red and white uniform but this one will says Cardinals.
