AL Cy Young

SP. Texas Rangers. Cole Hamels. 3. player. 95.
Hamels trails only Salazar and Baltimore’s Chris Tillman in bWAR among pitchers, and that means we shouldn’t be surprised about this ranking. FanGraphs is treating Hamels very harshly by nature of a 4.27 (!) FIP this season, but I’m chalking that up to a bit of rounding error, as his 2.87 ERA is in line with career norms. The walk rate (3.59 BB/9) is concerning, and Hamels is stranding more than 83% of his runners, but I believe in the overall talent level and he is pitching with a great deal of pressure on a team trying to right the ship. I enjoy Cole Hamels’ work. Sue me.
